Whether we openly admit it or not migraine headaches show a marked gender bias in that almost three fourths of the people who suffer from migraine are likely to be women. Some studies suggest that this could be due to the vagaries of a women’s menstruation cycle. But studies show that things like weather change, alcohol, food habits, stress and lack of proper rest could also trigger these headaches.
But do not worry; there are some things that you can try to do at home which could help you in managing the Migraine pain. Most of these remedies are not specific to any gender and both men and women suffering from migraine can try these out.
Home Remedies For Migraine Headache
- Drink plenty of water: Often improper hydration could be at the root of these headaches and by drinking plenty of water you could help avoid them.
- Drink caffeine: The confusing thing about caffeine consumption is that it could both help hinder the headache as well as cause it. Caffeine tends to restrict the blood vessels and this can alleviate the pain. But in some people it is known to trigger the headache. So ensure that your caffeine intake is not in excess to avoid rebound headaches that may occur.
- Tie a tight headband or cloth around the head: This is something that people have been doing since times past. Though not much is known about how or why it works, people having migraines have said that it gives them some relief.
